The LHF Network is the basis and heart of the organization of the Large Herbivore Foundation. Since 1998 the LHF Network has evolved to include over 600 contact people from over 40 countries world wide. Network contacts come from a wide range of backgrounds and disciplines; UN, EU, COE, International Conventions, governments, NGO’s, science, policy, environment, nature management, etc. In a ‘shifting’ group, some 200 people are actively involved on a regular basis, to support or implement the LHF work. Within and through the LHF network a lot of communication, cooperation and contacts take place autonomously. This is a real extra added value of the existence of the LHF Network.
LHF Network Meeting venues are chosen carefully to focus on specific actual issues in the host country. The presence of a group of international experts on nature conservation in general, and on large herbivores in particular, combined with the media coverage of the meeting can have an important influence in the host country. In these annual meetings, as well as in separate workshops and meetings of working groups, network members and invited guests can share their experiences, through presentations, discussions and workshops. Outcome of discussions in these meetings with official representatives of (host)countries often has an important impact as expert advise. This is another significant added value of the LHF Network.
Many partnerships have evolved over the last 10 years, since the start of the LHF work in 1998. Very important are the donor and funding partnerships, which make the LHF work possible. The partnerships of LHF for cooperation in the field and in policy, involve national and international GO’s , Conventions, science, universities, institutions and many NGO’s , from nature conservation and management, the hunting world to the international ZOO world.
In December 2009, respectively February 2010 LHF got warmly welcomed donations from the Prince Bernard Foundation for Nature, especially for communication leading to better opportunities for fundraising and WWF, the Netherlands.
